ALED EDWARDS

Chair of DPIA

The Chair of DPIA is Rev Aled Edwards OBE. Aled is the Chief Executive of CYTÛN (Churches Together in Wales) and is a member of the Wales Committee of the Equalities and Human Rights Commission.

Aled has a strong interest in issues concerning asylum seekers and refugees, race relations and equalities and human rights and has been involved with DPIA since its early stages. He has considerable skills and extensive knowledge of the refugee and voluntary sector.

LEONA WALSH

Director

Following a career in Interpreting & Translation and working with vulnerable groups, Leona was seconded to the School of Postgraduate Medical & Dental Education (Wales Deanery) to work with Asylum Seeking and Refugee Doctors in 2001.

Her roles in the Wales Deanery have included managing International Medical Graduates, Specialty Training Recruitment and most recently Professional Support to doctors and dentists in training. She has been integral to the success and longevity of the WARD group.

KATE BENNETT

Director

Kate was appointed as a Director of DPIA in early 2017. She was previously the National Director for Wales for the newly-formed Equality and Human Rights Commission in September 2007. She retired from this post in November 2016.

At the Commission, Kate worked with the Welsh Assembly on children’s rights and domestic abuse legislation, and with the Welsh Government on budgetary impact assessments and building strong networks across those involved in delivering public services.

Kate was awarded an OBE in the Autumn of 2017.

PEREDUR GRIFFITHS

Director

In his working life, Pred is the Performance Development Manager and Legacies Coordinator for Christian Aid. He once walked 140 miles from Bethlehem (Carmarthernshire) to Denbighshire’s Yr Aifft, which is Welsh for Egypt, to raise awareness about the struggles faced by refugees.

ANDREW HUNT

Director

Andrew joined the Directors’ Board in 2017. He is the founder of ASK Education & Training Limited, a company dedicated to providing specialised training for young people and organisations working with young people and adults. He also works as an engineering consultant to the railway industry.

MELODY RHYDDERCH

Director

Melody is the GP Training Academic Development Lead for the Wales Deanery. A psychologist by training, she has written extensively as a researcher for Cardiff University, mostly around the efficacy of support offered to medics in the NHS in Wales.
